Peripheral Neuropathy

Each summer I make my way to the San Juan Islands from New Orleans to visit my parents and escape hurricane season in New Orleans, especially after Katrina. Last year I was very ill and the trip here was very difficult, I am 47 and needed a wheelchair to get through the airport. I was sleeping, at best, 3 hours at a time. I was in a Gabapentin fog and couldn’t hold a thought in my head. It took me 4 days to recover from the trip. I stayed for a few months because I needed to be taken care of. I spent my months here at PT re-learning to walk at the Senior Center. I couldn’t work.
I have been on the full Protocol for a little over a year now. I made the trip easily this year, am sleeping almost normally, I can run up and down stairs, I can walk over driftwood beaches that last year were impossible. #TheProtocolworks. It is a measurable improvement that I attribute to Protocol. I still am healing and it’s not always comfortable and I don’t always handle it well. I’m learning. Returning to the place where I was last year makes such a clear mark of how far I’ve come in a year. Be encouraged!
